Leak is said to reveal (almost) all of the hardware of Sony’s PS5 Pro

There is a new leak about the PS5 Pro that wants to know all the important details about the hardware.

The Playstation 5 Pro is scheduled to come onto the market this year. As is now common for console releases, supposed specifications appear in the months before the official release.

The portal Insider Gaming now wants to find out almost all of the hardware that is supposed to be in the Playstation 5 Pro. The information coincides with previous leaks about the PS5 Pro, at least in the important points.

This is what the graphics unit should be able to do: According to the usually well-informed journalist Tom Henderson, last week’s GPU information circulated by YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead is correct.

As a result, the PS5 Pro will have approximately 45 percent better rasterizing performance than its regular counterpart; With regard to ray tracing, a performance increase of up to 300 percent should be included.

This is made possible by an upgrade to the WGPs (“Workgroup Processor”), of which 30 are supposed to be included in the chip of the Pro version. In the previous Playstation 5 there were only 18 WGPs.

WGP refers to the basic unit for shader calculations within the RDNA architecture, each containing two CUs (Compute Units).

Also on board is an NPU with a performance of 300 TOPS to accelerate machine learning algorithms.

Overall, the graphics unit should be able to generate a computing power of up to 33.5 teraflops (FP32) or 67 terflops (FP16).

In the Playstation 5 Pro, this is also used for the in-house upscaling feature, which goes by the name “PSSR” (Playstation Spectral Super Resolution). This should allow all games to run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

(Almost) identical processor: The actual processor of the Playstation 5 Pro will probably change little compared to the standard model.

The originally rumored smaller manufacturing process, according to which the new chip relies on TSMC’s N4P production (4 nm), is not mentioned in this leak.

According to rumors, the still unknown processor will have its own “High CPU Frequency” mode, which will allow the CPU to draw more power and thus increase the clock speed to 3.85 GHz.

If necessary, the PS5 Pro processor would clock around ten percent higher than the regular Playstation 5. In return, the graphics performance is marginally reduced in this mode; The leak speaks of around one percent lower GPU performance.

Improved audio quality: The audio co-processor (ACV) has barely been mentioned so far. This will also receive an upgrade in the Playstation 5 Pro, which will result in an unspecified higher clock speed.

With the higher clock speed of the ACV, up to 35 percent more performance should be possible for audio-specific calculations.

Explicitly mentioned is the convolution reverb, which, to put it simply, is responsible for ambient sound effects and, thanks to the better processor, offers the possibility of more realistic and immersive sound.

The FFT calculations (“Fast Fourier Transform”) should also be faster, which is an algorithm that converts time-discrete audio signals into their frequency components or does the opposite in the inverse calculation (IFFT).

With a removable disk drive? Like the latest revision of the Playstation 5 – also unofficially known as the PS5 Slim – the Pro version will have a removable drive.

This is intended to help the PS5 Pro remain as “competitive as possible” – but this choice of words is not intended to come from Henderson. The usual one terabyte is listed as the internal capacity.

However, two of the most important pieces of information remain unknown: There is no new information about either a specific release date or a possible recommended price.
