The one and only Kondo Koji, who has composed music for many games around the world mario and Zelda series, is joining the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame.
If you’ve ever played a Mario game, you’ve almost certainly heard of Kondo’s work. He is the man behind the iconic soundtrack for Super Mario 64, as well as equally iconic games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Super Mario Galaxy. As announced earlier this week, AIAS announced that Kondo has been selected as the newest inductee into the 27th DICE Awards Hall of Fame. This is obviously a well-deserved recognition, as his work has easily become many fans’ favorite parts of games like Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.

“I’m extremely grateful to DICE for this important award,” Kondo said in a statement. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be recognized like this. I’m grateful to the many people around me for their help and the support of our customers and fans.” , I have been fortunate enough to be involved in game music development for decades, and I am grateful to everyone who has helped and supported me. I will continue to work hard on music and sound development, hoping to make everyone’s gaming experience more enjoyable in the years to come.”
As noted in Kondo’s induction announcement, the Hall of Fame Award “is given to game creators who have been instrumental in developing highly influential games and pushing specific genres forward,” which could easily describe the composer. He joins the ranks of other influential figures such as Double Fine’s Time Schafer, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, and Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima.
