With its block mechanics, Minecraft is like the Lego of the video game world. So it’s no wonder that Lego fans are recreating constructs from the video game. A Youtuber has undertaken a major project: he is rebuilding a so-called piston from Minecraft with Lego bricks and even imitating the mechanical functionality.

starting difficulties
Such a replica brings with it some challenges – especially if it is to be true to detail. To start, the Youtuber needs RJMBricks
The dimensions of the project are also important for the attention to detail. The piston is the same size on all sides, but a Lego brick is not. That’s why RJM takes a normal rectangular Lego brick and puts a tile on it. The stone is the same size on all sides and virtually imitates a pixel.
Lego was also used to make this cool homage to The Mandalorian
built. The short film relies entirely on actors and a set of blocks:

The mechanism is probably the hardest part
It’s quite a challenge to recreate such a large cube in great detail. The mechanism itself is probably the most complex part. After all, the piston should be able to be moved in and out just like in the game.
The first idea for this is a lever connected to gears. Thanks to different sized gears on an axle, the last gear should turn further than the first one moved by the lever. In this way he wants to ensure that the piston extends completely.
The sheer weight of the construct puts a spanner in the works for the Youtuber. Instead of moving the piston as planned, he just bends the axle with the attempt. A small electric motor from Lego could be considered as an alternative.
The motor also has to work hard to move the huge Lego block, which is why RJMBricks opts for small wheels. Since the rest of the piston also has to be raised for this, he also builds a grass landscape underneath – and the effort is worth it because the logo construct looks really good.

In the end it will be the lever
With the wheels on the piston, the lever is again a valid option for extending and retracting the piston. For this purpose, RJMBricks builds a fairly large and thick lever that extends into the piston block from above. He can move it up and down, left and right to create as much leverage as possible in a small space.
In the end, the complex mechanism does exactly what it should and we find the whole project really impressive. If you’ve gotten back into Lego and video games like we have, there’s a new game to match in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Our test is here:
