An artist from England recreated the legendary 3dfx Voodoo graphics card as a LEGO model (picture above). If there are enough fans as part of the “LEGO Ideas” program, the set could even go into production.

How many supporters are needed? Loud Artist »idspi« there should eventually be 10,000 supporters for LEGO to consider implementing. Over 100 of them have apparently already been found, which is why LEGO has already extended the deadline for the project by 365 days. The next goal is the 1,000 mark.

The LEGO 3dfx Voodoo graphics card is not idspi's first project. A few days ago, she already had one LEGO Sound Blaster Pro 2 in front.

Idspi does not use any particularly complex, new clamp components for the replica of the 3D accelerator. On the contrary: Most (older) readers should be familiar with the predominantly green, black and gray blocks from their childhood. There are 78 pieces in total, but the LEGO model comes surprisingly close to the original (picture above).

The legendary original

The 3dfx Voodoo Graphics (code name SST-1), which is also known as Voodoo 1, was introduced by 3dfx Interactive in October 1996. It is considered a milestone in the development of modern 3D graphics chips for gamers. You can find a detailed review of this period in the following article:

LEGO as a graphics card support

There are already significantly older hardware projects that were realized with LEGO bricks. In 2013, the user »Brickthing« presented a very detailed model of a graphics card with a cooler and fan via flickr.com.

Not quite as detailed, but no less creative and above all practical is an idea from Reddit user »zachanast18«. For his graphics card, he constructed a support (GPU support) from clamp modules:

This additional support for the LEGO graphics card is probably not suitable for transporting the PC, but the approach is still creative. Some, but not all, particularly long and heavy graphics cards are provided with special supports to protect the card itself from torsion and to relieve the PCIe slots.
