Lies of P: Souls-Like by Neowiz has achieved strong player numbers

As far as Souls likes go, Elden Ring is certainly at the top of the throne, but genre colleagues like Lies of P have been able to assert themselves in the difficult area.

We remember: Lies of P was released in September 2023 as a bizarre Souls-like implementation of the Pinocchio saga with, at least visually, plenty of Bloodborne influences. The recipe seems to have worked, because according to current player numbers, Lies of P was more than just a respectable success for the Korean developer.

In a post on X/Twitter, the developers announced that Lies of P has been played by a whopping seven million players on all platforms since its launch. That’s nowhere near Elden Ring’s over 23 million players, but the number is more than impressive.

The only downer is that the number of players will certainly not correspond to the purchases, because the game was released on Xbox Game Pass, which means that quite a few players will have played the title for free. Reports in October that reported over a million copies sold confirmed that the sales were not bad.

This also explains why Neowiz is already continuing to work on the brand. There were first signs of a paid DLC for Lies of P as early as November, and at the same time it was also confirmed that work had already begun on a sequel that would be developed based on Unreal Engine 5 (Lies of P was still based on Unreal Engine 4 ).

Good thing, colleague Dennis was quite impressed with his review of Lies of P and many of the initial quirks have now been ironed out with patches: “… the weapon mechanics, the precise controls and the varied bosses kept me constantly entertained. What surprised me the most was but probably the story with its twists and implied philosophical questions.”

In the brutal doll world of Pinocchio – gaming session for Lies of P

Lies of P is actually based on the well-known children’s book Pinocchio. But the Souls-like is definitely not suitable for children. Felix and Dennis fight and die their way through the brutal and dark world.
