A fan posted a “little daydream” on the Civilization Reddit, asking if it would be possible to play the upcoming 4X strategy game Civilization 7 early. The reason is sad, as their father is currently battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. As a long-time fan of Sid Meier, who has played Centauri and the original Civilization, the opportunity to play the latest game would be a nice gift.
“I wouldn’t normally ask this, but my dad only has a few months to live,” JordantheGnat wrote. “He’s dying of stage 4 pancreatic cancer and he’s been a fan of Sid Meier’s games since Alpha Centauri and I think he was also a fan of the first Civilization game. I’m trying to get any games he can play before he passes since we’re not sure if he’ll make it in February. If there aren’t any by now, that makes sense, I’m just hoping someone can help me make this little pipe dream come true. Thanks for any help ❤️”

But it turns out that fluke may finally work. Sarah, a community manager at Firaxis, responded to the request, asking Jordan to contact him via direct message. That’s where the thread ends for now, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that I hope Firaxis can bring Jordan and his father together. As for the Civilization community, they’ve been supportive in every way they can. Some have even purchased more expensive versions of the game to show their gratitude.
Obviously, it’s a sad story overall, but it’s great that Firaxis is willing and able to lend a hand to fans in need. It’s something you love to see, some great community interaction that can really make a difference in someone’s life.
