Game news Lightforge Games: A new studio from alumni of Blizzard and Epic Games
A brand new studio just opened today! This is the Lightforge Games Studio. A studio founded by game industry veterans with the goal of bringing gamers a whole new way of role-playing.
Today Matt Schembari, Dan Hertzka, Nathan Fairbanks, Glenn Rane and Marc Hutcheson, Former developers of Epic Games (Fortnite) and Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft) have teamed up to create Lightforge Games, a fully teleworking studio. This brand new development house, which has just raised $ 5 million, now employs a total of 11 people from Epic Game and Blizzard Entertainment, but also from BioWare, Riot Games and Zenimax Online Media.
Lightforge Games is already seeing things in a big way and wants to offer players a new way of approaching RPGs with their first game. This includes offering a “cross-platform social experience where players have the opportunity to create worlds and stories with unprecedented freedom”.
Here we all love very social and creative games, and we especially love games where the players are narrative. We want to combine elements of Minecraft or Roblox with tabletop role-playing games to develop a new way of looking at RPGs. Given our track record, it made sense to create a game that would revolutionize RPGs. Matt Schembari, PDG de Lightforge Games
In a press release, the team states that it has already worked on many video games including Diablo III, The Elder Scrolls Online, Fortnite, HearthStone, Overwatch, StarCraft II, Star Wars: The Old Republic and of course World of Warcraft. In short, a nice résumé!
In the long term, we are building a studio in which empathy for players and developers is at the center of everything we do. By building a company that consists entirely of teleworking, every team member can live where it is best for their life situation. Matt Schembari
As of now, this very first Lightforge Games project doesn’t have a title, but we expect to find out more in the near future.
