The Guardians of Breath of the Wild are completely absent in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Wild, but there are some things that won’t help you sleep at night.
Spoilers ahead, one of the new enemies, and more to come.
Meeting my first mobile guardian in Breath of the Wild was probably one of the scariest (and most humbling) things I’ve ever experienced in a game. Their incredible speed, the laser and one-shot beam attacks on my back, the panicked piano score that makes it feel like Link is going through PTSD. All of this adds up to absolute terror for the enemy. I was relieved to see that the island of Hyrule was nowhere to be found in Tears of the Kingdom. So of course Nintendo added a new enemy, a true nightmare.
I’m talking about those hands, of course. If you know it, you know it. I don’t even know what these things are called, but I hate them. They’re made entirely of shadows, they’re ridiculously fast, and if they catch up to you, they’ll literally grab you and suck the life out of you until there’s nothing left. I’m not the only one who hates them, as many people think that Tears of Kingdoms is essentially a horror game.
Twitter user Combust certainly felt that way, showing themselves being chased by one of them in the middle of Hyrule. The sky is red and they are chasing you, so scary!
One user on Reddit likened them to the Guardians of the Silent Realm in Skyward Sword, who also relentlessly chase you down in incredibly stress-inducing fashion.
These enemies have got to be the scariest things in the series, on par with the Guardians of the Silent Kingdom in Skyward Sword

Another user put it simply – “I hate ’em I hate ’em I hate ’em I hate ’em!!!”
