Thanks to the new information, we now have a lot of new details about what’s coming Warzone 2.0 Chew while we wait for the free game to drop next week.
The evolution of Call of Duty Battle Royale mode brings back certain familiar features, but it’s also revamping and overhauling many others.
While most of the details of Warzone 2.0 will be revealed sometime before its release, the Call of Duty blog posted a rundown of the most basic of high-level changes.
The post begins with confirmation that custom player loading will not be removed. While many players never expected them to go away, Warzone 2.0’s in-game debut on September’s Call of Duty Next cast doubt on its fate. At the time, Infinity Ward showed a more detailed inventory system, with fewer ways for players to get custom gear.
This is not necessarily the case in the launch build. While gear drops are gone, players will be able to purchase their custom gear from the shop (buy station). There is also an option to get just the main weapon without any perks.
Load drops are still in the game, but they are now part of a server-wide event and players need to fight for them. Clearing out a stronghold or Black Site — two AI-guarded locations — will also give you more of a load early in the action as AI enemies join in.
Strongholds are available for each game. The first team to complete will be tasked with defuse the bomb. Doing so will reward a key, which unlocks a Black Site (and earns everyone their loadout). Black Sites are essentially stronger strongholds with premium gear and permanent blueprint unlocks.
While only the first team can get the keys to the Black Site, other teams can continue to attack Strongholds to get their gear.
This time the gulag is also different. It’s now a 2v2 battle where players will be paired randomly, each with the same loadout. The Gulag now includes AI as well, appearing in the middle of the game in the form of jailers.
All four players can team up to defeat the Jailer and win Comeback for all, or they can continue with the standard setup. If everyone waits and the jailer is not eliminated, all four will die. There will also be more powerful weapons available for pickup in the center of the map.
In addition to a new circle crash system that creates multiple random safe zones, and new vehicle and refueling mechanics, players can interrogate fallen enemies to find out where teammates are.
In the DMZ and some BR playlists, you can also form larger squads with players you meet during matches.
Warzone 2.0 arrives alongside the first season of Modern Warfare 2 on Wednesday, November 16th.
