iOS 16 will probably get the biggest changes

Most of the rumors are currently surrounding Apple’s next smartphone operating system. If these are to be believed, you can expect some major changes here. This is how the lock screen of the iPhone should be revised. In this context, the Pro models of the iPhone 14 could even get an always-on display.

Apart from that, it will probably be provided with a whole new feature: interactive widgets. The interactive version of the informative tiles lets you interact with the corresponding app without opening it. For example, you could pause, play, or skip to the next song without launching an app. If you even have it on the lock screen in the future, you don’t even have to unlock your smartphone for it.

Also, rumors of minor changes are still circulating, of which MacRumors reported. Accordingly, the news app from Apple should get improved audio messages and Functions as in social networks. However, it is currently unclear what exactly is meant by this.

In addition, Apple’s Health app could be revised. Here the sleep tracking function should be improved and users should be able to scan their pill bottles so that the app can help with management and dosage. Health functions for women are also planned.

watchOS 9 is also being revised

In addition to the iPhone operating system, something new is also expected for the Apple Watch OS: watchOS 9. The new version is to be given a revised energy-saving mode. In the current power reserve mode, the Apple Watch is purely limited to displaying the time. The new iteration could also unlock other features while saving battery power.

The Apple Watch should be able to better detect atrial fibrillation with the update and tell you how often it was detected over a certain period of time. The smartwatch is intended to help patients who have problems with cardiac arrhythmias.

Last but not least, there are also changes for the workout app. Here you will get more different workouts and new metrics that will allow you to analyze your running behavior, for example. On top of that, a fresh look is expected.

MacBooks with a new coat of paint?

Apple’s third major hardware product are the MacBooks. In all probability, they will also receive an update for their operating system. The biggest changes here will probably be of a visual nature. Some standard apps from Apple such as Messenger, Mail, Notes and Safari are to be given a new coat of paint.

In addition, the app for system settings will be revised. She then resembles aloud MacRumors more of the Settings app of the iPhone and iPad. In addition, a dedicated app for classical music is under discussion.

We know little about the other operating systems

There are also two other operating systems from Apple, but little is known about their innovations: iPadOS 16 and tvOS 16. For the iPad, there could be innovations in the windows and functions that help multitasking. All we know about tvOS 16 is that Bloomberg’s Apple expert Mark Gurman more smart home integrations predicts.

We could see this hardware

On the hardware front, there are two options on the table right now: A new Mac Pro and an AR/VR headset. A new version of the Mac Pro was previously announced by senior vice president of hardware engineering John Ternus (via MacRumors), but we don’t have an exact release date yet.

Additionally, Mark Gurman claims that Apple still has Mac-specific announcements in May or June of this year. Since WWDC is next week, that would fit in time. But we don’t yet know which hardware could be in the new Mac Pro.

Rumors of an AR/VR headset from Apple have been circulating for a long time. According to experts, a release is planned for 2023. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this is also the reason why we will not see the headset and the associated operating system realityOS at WWDC 2022.

In two tweets he describes that it will be a while before the headset goes into mass production and the release is therefore still far away. Should Apple introduce the hardware and operating system next week, the competitors would copy Apple’s technology even before it was on the shelves. You can read both tweets here:
