Larry Hryb (affectionately known to the Xbox community as Major Nelson) has announced his departure from Microsoft.
According to Hryb, he is leaving the company to work on the “next chapter” of his career.
“After 20 incredible years, I’ve decided to take a step back and commit to the next chapter of my career.” Hryb said on Twitter. “When I take a moment to reflect on everything we do together, I want to thank the millions of gamers around the world who have included me in their lives.
“Also, thanks to the Xbox team members for trusting me to have direct conversations with customers. The future is bright for Xbox, and as a gamer, I’m excited to see this develop.”
Hryb joined Microsoft in 2001 as editor-in-chief of MSN Music and later as director of programming for Xbox Live. He writes the Major Nelson blog, provides insight into the operations of the Xbox division, and was actively involved in the development of Microsoft’s early game consoles, Xbox Live, Kinect, and more.
He also hosts a weekly podcast called Major Nelson Radio, where he conducts interviews and discusses consoles, technology, gadgets, and all things Xbox.
Hryb said that with his departure, the official Xbox podcast will be on hiatus this summer before returning in a new format.
