Do you remember Into the Breach? Despite its dusty appearance, it took the world by storm at the time. No wonder, after all, it is one of the best strategy games of the last few years. In 2021, Loop Hero is heading in a very similar direction: It looks like a lost child of the old Ultima classics
Publisher Devolver announced 150,000 players just 24 hours after the release (Loop Hero was released on March 4, 2021). Between 40,000 and 50,000 people are currently playing the game at the same time – and 95 percent of the Steam reviews are positive. Ui.
What is Loop Hero anyway?
Loop Hero is pretty difficult to explain – and we’re currently working anyway in a detailed GameStar test, which you will probably find with us punctually on Monday, March 8th. But let’s try the short version:
- Your fantasy hero (or heroine) has been caught in a time warp by a lich: the poor main character is forced to go through a classic RPG parkour of fighting and exploration over and over again.
- You do not play the main character, but organize the events around it: you use special cards to place landscape types and obstacles.
- Automatic battles.
- The goal is simple: your main character has to get stronger and stronger through battles and loot in order to escape from the time loop at some point.
- You also improve a camp to unlock new bonuses with new buildings.
- Classic roguelite: In each new randomly generated round, you take certain bonuses with you to improve your chances.

“It’s pretty addicting”: Trailer for the new Steam climber Loop Hero
Loop Hero hat (genau wie Into the Breach) very exciting considerations: Do you break your current loop in order to start the next round with a big booty – or do you risk everything because you are railing for victory in the current round? Which cards, hero classes and upgrades do you want to bet on? According to the Steam Reviews, Loop Hero unfolds an incredibly captivating gameplay … Loop, beginner-friendly, but tough to master.
A resounding success on Steam
Loop Hero is currently incredibly successful on Steam for such a small project. As already mentioned, publisher Devolver announced one Player count of 150,000 people after just one day:

The 95 percent positive reviews result from almost 3,500 Steam reviewers. Here are a few voices from the community:
“I may have only put 7.5 hours into the game, but I bought it exactly 7.5 hours ago. So yeah, get it. (Cabalisk)”
“The game is definitely a recommendation for fans of the rogue-lite genre. It’s practically a world editor. […] About the RNG loot, which some people point to: You decide for yourself (by placing various cards) how numerous and of high quality the loot will be. It’s not always perfect, but you have a lot of control over it yourself. In my 34 hours of play, I didn’t encounter any bugs and the game only crashed once. A negative point on my part, because the selection of perks is too RNG. (NightClash[Ger])”
“” Just one more loop “, you will say to yourself. And then suddenly 12 hours have passed – so keep an eye on the clock. (Mark)”
Loop Hero is currently reduced to just under 13 dollars via Steam, but costs only 15 dollars even without a discount. Ideally, however, wait for our GameStar test on Monday if you really want to find out more about the game. Until then, we recommend our overview of all insider tips in March 2021. Because we cheeky hipsters captured the game there before the rest of the world thought it was cool.
