While the really big blockbuster releases are still a long way off, the waiting can perhaps be bridged with a good old classic. Or maybe it should be a game where you keep dying and have to start all over again?
Then you’re in good hands on Steam and GOG this week, because the two download and sales platforms each have their own theme week with offers at the start. We have dared to take a look for you and tell you where you can save this week.
And if you’re looking for completely new games, you’ll find them here:
New on Steam:
This week will be exciting for tactics & Warhammer fans
Rogue Week on Steam
Steam is celebrating a genre this week that is not so easy to classify, but whose representatives regularly achieve high average ratings: roguelikes, roguelites and everything that goes with it a bit. Because for Valve, soulslikes and metroidvanias are also part of it, which basically only have something to do with the genre father Rogue from 1980 to a limited extent.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – Preview of the sequel to the Soulslike Metroidvania highlight
This broad definition comes in handy for the sale week, which runs from May 2nd to May 9th, as it gives you a lot more choice. Here are a few recommendations worth checking out:
- Enter the Gungeon: In this action-packed roguelite, you’ll shoot like crazy, as the name already suggests. Instead of swords or fireballs, you’ll find assault rifles and shotguns here in the dungeons, which are undoubtedly a little crazy. (6 dollars, reduced by 60 percent)
- Dead Cells: Can also be characterized by a fast and dynamic combat system, but also offers elements from the Metroidvania genre and is a crisp challenge. (14.99 dollars, reduced by 40 percent)
- Slay the Spire: Is the opposite of the previous two games, as this is primarily a card game – but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t roguelite elements. (8 euro, reduced by 60 percent)
- Skul – The Hero Slayer: The game from the developer SouthPAW Games is based on Dead Cells and presents itself as a chic 2D platformer with an action-packed combat system and a tough level of difficulty. (12 dollars, reduced by 30 percent)
- Hollow Knight: It can’t be missing from a list of the best Metroidvanias, even with a sale week like this. Hollow Knight is atmospheric, playfully challenging and lets you explore a mysterious realm as a nameless knight. (6 dollars, reduced by 60 percent)
- Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice: If you need more from From Software after the Elden Ring, but can do without an open world and prefer a more linear experience, you should give Sekiro a chance – at least if there is still enough potential for frustration. (30 euro, reduced by 50 percent
- Gunfire Reborn: Here you slip into the role of different characters with unique abilities, either alone or in co-op mode, and shoot your way through random levels in first-person shooter style. (13 dollars, reduced by 25 percent)
You can find many more Roguelikes, Roguelites, Soulslikes and Metroidvanias on the Steam supply page.
Old classics at GOG
But if all the more modern games don’t really interest you, then maybe it’s worth taking a look into the past. This will be provided by GOG, which used to be called Good Old Games, until May 9th. The focus then? Bring old classics that are no longer for sale into the digital age – and the platform is once again following this motto this week.

- The Dark Eye – Drakensang: A party role-playing game based on the pen and paper template The Dark Eye, in which character stats play an important role. (2 dollars, reduced by 75 percent)
- Empire Earth: Age of Empires 2 style real-time strategy where you travel through different epochs and fight big battles. (2 dollars, reduced by 66 percent)
- Deus Ex: A classic of the immersive sim genre that takes you into a cyberpunk scenario of the year 2050 and places great value on playful freedom. (1 $, reduced by 86 percent)
