The life of famous composer Leonard Bernstein is dramatically portrayed in the Netflix biopic “Maestro”. In addition to starring in the lead role, Bradley Cooper also serves as executive director.

The Netflix Original “Maestro” follows the life of the one and only composer Leonard Bernstein, with a focus on his marriage to actress Felicia Montealegre.

Steven Spielberg was originally slated to serve as the film’s executive director. However, he gave the scepter to Bradley Cooper, who was already able to convince in 2018 with his directorial debut “A Star Is Born”.

Maestro: Start date

It is still unclear when the biographical drama should start with the streaming provider Netflix. It was only announced that the film would be added to the program in 2023. If there is any news regarding an exact date, we will keep you posted here.

Not much is known about the plot so far. It is clear that the life of the world-famous composer Leonard Bernstein is portrayed in part and that the focus is particularly on his marriage to Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, which is portrayed in a correspondingly passionate and dramatic manner.

He also stars Carey Mulligan (“Spaceman”) as Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre, Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) as Jamie Bernstein, Sarah Silverman as Shirley Bernstein and Matt Bomer (“White Collar”).

Also starring are Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) as John Gruen and Michael Urie (“Shrinking”) as Jerome Robbins.

Actor and director Bradley Cooper serves as executive director. The film is produced by Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Fred Berner, Amy Durning and Cooper. The script was written by Academy Award winner Josh Singer and also by Cooper.

The film was originally a project by production company Paramount Pictures, with Bradley Cooper selected to direct and star in 2018. In January 2020, “Maestro” was sold to the streaming provider Netflix. Filming, initially scheduled for 2021, finally started in May 2022.
