Mafia returns. But not with Mafia 4 or a new edition of the first and perhaps the best part of the series. For this, Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 will each be given a Definitive Edition, which should appear for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
The remastering of the two mafia games has not yet been officially announced. However, both Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition were submitted in Korea for age classification (via Gematsu), which is why we know about them before the official announcement.
It is currently not known when the Definitive Editions of Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 will be released. In this regard, fans have to wait for the official unveiling, while with PC, PS4 and Xbox One we only know the planned platforms. There is no mention of a version for Nintendo Switch in this context.

And while we were very impressed with Mafia 2 with a test rating of 85 and less with Mafia 3 with a test rating of 72, 2K Games seems to leave the best part of the series with the fish: The first mafia earned a proud 90 points in our test, but according to the current state of affairs it probably won't get a new edition.

It remains to be seen whether this will change for the official announcement of the Definitive Editions of Mafia 2 and Mafia 3. However, it can be doubted with a clear conscience if the effort to bring the first mafia to the current state of the art turns out to be too complex and time-consuming have highlighted.
Don't look too early for Mafia 4
But one can speculate whether 2K Games with the new editions of its (almost) forgotten series paves the way for Mafia 4. Take-Two hinted in November 2019 that there could soon be news or even successors to some of the publisher's biggest brands.
However, other indications of a possible Mafia 4 are limited: While the renewal of the trademark protection entries for the Mafia series already indicated a remaster of well-known parts, Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 is definitely not working on Mafia 4. Specific information about the new one The brand of the studio is still a long time coming – but should come "soon".
Accordingly, fans should not be happy too early and assume that the Definitive Editions for Mafia 2 and 3 automatically indicate a Mafia 4. Hope: Yes. Expect: Less.
