MagentaTV with RTL+ in a package: Many booking options, but not all of them are cheap

Telekom offers MagentaTV in various packages with other streaming services, including RTL+. However, 8 different packages can be confusing at first. We’ll give you an overview.

1. You have neither a MagentaTV nor a Netflix subscription

2. You have a MagentaTV subscription but not yet an RTL+ subscription

3. You have an RTL+ subscription but not yet a MagentaTV subscription

If the already large live stream offering at MagentaTV is not enough for you, you can also book the live TV service in combination with various streaming services. It is particularly easy to add RTL+, as the streaming service is already included in several MagentaTV tariffs. This is where things get a little more complicated.

The RTL+ subscription you get varies depending on your MagentaTV tariff. In addition, not every tariff includes RTL+ access and Telekom also offers RTL+ as an add-on option for existing MagentaTV customers. This is useful if you want to book RTL+ later, but as a customer you quickly lose track of so many options.

Here we will explain all the options you have to book RTL+ via MagentaTV. We will also explain the restrictions for existing MagentaTV customers and RTL+ subscribers.

You have neither a MagentaTV nor a Netflix subscription

If you have not yet subscribed to both services, booking both services in combination is relatively straightforward. You just have to choose one of the MagentaTV tariffs that includes RTL+. You can choose from the MegaStream 2.0, SmartStream 2.0, Smart 2.0 and Smart Flex packages. RTL+ is only not included in the MagentaTV Flex and MagentaTV Basic 2.0 packages.

But not all of the tariffs mentioned give you the same amount to see (and hear) on RTL+. With the Smart, SmartStream and Smart Flex packages you get access to RTL+ Premium, only with the most expensive MagentaTV MegaStream subscription can you enjoy RTL+ Max. Unlike when booking through RTL, however, you have to do without unlimited music streaming with the MegaStream subscription.

The advantages of RTL+ Max over RTL+ Premium include that you see fewer advertisements, can watch up to two parallel streams and have a download function for certain content. Incidentally, you cannot book the RTL+ Family option, which is designed for families, via MagentaTV in this way.

How expensive your MagentaTV tariff will be also depends on whether you want to add Telekom Internet or not. The table above shows you how expensive the individual tariffs are without Telekom Internet, while the table below tells you how much you have to pay with Telekom Internet. Only the Smart Flex package is available without Telekom Internet.

Please note that when booking with Telekom Internet you can choose between different flat rates with different data volumes. The monthly price also varies depending on the flat rate.

You have a MagentaTV subscription but not yet an RTL+ subscription

As an existing MagentaTV customer, Telekom offers you the option of adding RTL+ later or upgrading your RTL access. To do this, you use the add-on options. Telekom offers you four of these. Two of them with full access to RTL+ music, two of them without. The add-on options are therefore the only way for you to access the RTL+ music offering via MagentaTV. RTL+ Family is also available here as a subscription.

The additional options are the RTL+ Max and RTL + Family packages, each of which is available with and without music streaming. With music, both the Max and Family subscriptions are more than twice as expensive, which is why we can only recommend this offer to those who do not already have a subscription to another music streaming service such as Spotify or Deezer.

Let’s compare the prices with those you would pay for the two subscriptions at RTL+. Remember that unlimited music streaming is included in both. This makes it easy to compare them with the MagentaTV add-on options with music.

This is how much you save with the additional booking options

You can get the Max package from MagentaTV for seven dollars a month, but from RTL itself it costs 9.99 dollars per month, although the price increases to 12.99 dollars after the fourth month. So you save almost three dollars with Telekom and later almost six dollars. The Family package costs 15 dollars with music via MagentaTV, but 14.99 dollars with RTL and 18.99 dollars from the fourth month onwards. So you don’t save anything at all here at first, but later on you save a few dollars.

Without music, the Max package via MagentaTV costs 3 dollars, the Family package costs four dollars. Since RTL+ does not have its own equivalent to this offer, it is difficult to compare. But one thing is clear: for a few dollars more per month, you get access to significantly more RTL+ content and functions. It is definitely worth it.

But be careful: You can only use the additional options with and without music if you have also booked your internet with Telekom. In addition, the additional options with music streaming are minimum prices. Depending on your tariff, the monthly costs can therefore vary slightly.

After all, all additional options can be canceled on a monthly basis. However, they are only available to subscribers of the MagentaTV Smart, MagentaTV SmartStream and MagentaTV MegaStream tariffs.

You have an RTL+ subscription but not yet a MagentaTV subscription

If you already use RTL+ but now want to get MagentaTV, it would be unwise in many cases to have both subscriptions running in parallel. Why should you continue to pay for your streaming access to RTL+ when it is included in the subscription to most MagentaTV tariffs anyway?

You could of course cancel your RTL+ subscription at the earliest possible opportunity and then book your tariff with MagentaTV. However, if you want to switch immediately but a possible cancellation is still a long way off, this is of course not an option. Telekom offers you a special service for these cases.

With this service, you can move your existing RTL+ subscription to MagentaTV and continue using it without having to cancel. You will usually receive a registration link for the move with your MagentaTV booking. The Telekom explains the process for completing the account on its website.

Once you have completed all of the steps listed, your RTL+ subscription will now be available through MagentaTV. From this point on, your monthly payment will also be handled by Telekom.

In addition to possible price advantages, booking RTL+ via MagentaTV also has a convenient advantage. You can use both offers in one app and no longer have to constantly jump back and forth between two user interfaces when streaming.
