Like every Thursday, the free games in the Epic Store are changing again today. This week, Epic is pulling out a double punch and offering indie horror with Maid of Sker and retro arcade gaming with Arcade Paradise.
In the first-person survival horror Maid of Sker, you visit an old, dilapidated hotel and experience a scary story from British folklore. Hold your breath and don’t move too quickly, because the enemies react to even the smallest noise. So silence is your best weapon against the horror that’s after you, and if that’s not enough, you can always buy yourself enough time with your defensive sonic device and make a quick run for it.
The story of Maid of Sker is based on the old Welsh children’s song “Y Ferch o’r Sger” (The Maid of Sker) and also has a number of other Welsh hymns and songs to offer musically.
If you prefer something a little less scary, you might want to try Epic’s second free game, Arcade Paradise. As the daughter of a laundromat dynasty, you take over your parents’ shop, but since you’re not interested in fabric softener and dirty laundry, you’d rather convert the place into a decent arcade.
