The announcements keep coming from Sony. While the games available to PS Plus subscribers this month have been revealed, the publisher is announcing something new for the PS5.
The PlayStation 5 Pro has been on everyone’s lips in recent weeks, but Sony’s latest version continues its journey seemingly in vain. Routine updates for the PS5, like the more important ones, follow at a regular pace and today Sony is giving us a small preview of one of the console’s future features.
New features for the PS5
Something new is coming soon for the PS5. A new feature aimed primarily at those who like to play online, as Sony will introduce a new way to invite other players to your sessions in the coming months. Currently it is possible to do this directly from the game or your group, but PlayStation wants to simplify the process by allowing you to generate a shareable link. More specifically: whether on your PS5 or via the PS app: you can generate a link and then send it via message or via social networks. By opening the link or QR code, the recipient can then join your party or multiplayer session, even without being part of your friends list on PSN.
« For example, if you’ve just chatted with someone new on a social network, you can invite them to a session on PS5 from the same chat and play with them without having to add them to your friends on PS5 » explains Sony in its official press release. New technologies require the Japanese manufacturer to update a selection of PS5 games when introducing this new feature to ensure optimal operation. In any case, Sony assures that it will work closely together to “explore the best solutions for these games.” »
Further improvements planned
A widget for sharing from the PS5 via the messaging application will also be made available in the coming months. It dynamically updates to show the status of the multiplayer session and check if it is still active before you join. And it’s not over yet! In the future, it will also be possible to share your PSN profile or that of another player via social networks or via message. This is again done via a link that can be generated directly via the console, the PS app or on the official PlayStation website.
Sony promises that these three new features represent just a small sample of the measures they will soon be taking to “facilitate multiplayer sessions and build friendly connections between players.” No release window has been given for these three new features, but they will undoubtedly arrive with the PS5’s next major update.
