at another knock on the door battlefieldMarcus Lehto is reportedly leaving the studio he founded to lead the shooter franchise.
Earlier this week, multiple social media users noticed that Lehto appeared to have removed all mention of Battlefield and EA from his Twitter bio, leading some to suspect that he no longer works at Ridgeline Games. VGC has since confirmed that Lehto’s Facebook account shared a post over the weekend in which he confirmed that he had left EA, but did not provide a reason as to why this had happened. While at Bungie, Lehto was a co-creator of the “Halo” series and the founder of Ridgeline Games, a studio under EA set up specifically for the “Battlefield” series.

When announcing the news, Lehto said, “It’s an incredible honor to have the opportunity to work with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the way in expanding the narrative, storytelling, and character development opportunities for the Battlefield franchise.” Last February, it was announced that another team would be formed specifically to Support Ridgeline in developing the single-player campaign for Battlefield. The status of Ridgeline’s Battlefield game is obviously a bit up in the air now that Lehto appears to have left EA, but there doesn’t seem to be any sign at the moment that it’s been cancelled.
Last September, “Need for Speed” developer Criterion Games also announced that it would develop “Battlefield” again with DICE, Ripple Effect and Ridgeline. We haven’t really heard anything about any of the projects these studios are developing, although reports in January suggested that Battlefield, expected to release this year, would include a beloved series feature that everyone has been missing out on.
Battlefield 2042 never managed to find the audience it needed upon launch, and EA had to do a lot of work to bring back content like classes that many players originally wanted. Believe it or not, the game is actually getting a new season next month, too, despite years of struggles.
