One of the most popular and successful titles in Nintendo’s portfolio has been Mario Kart for many years. The current offshoot, Mario Kart 8, has been around for a few years now, so a new part should finally be in the works.
Nintendo is finally dedicating itself to a new Mario Kart – at least if you believe a well-known analyst in his latest statement. What is meant in this case is Dr. Serkan Toto from Kantan Games; this focuses on the analysis of the Japanese industry.
In conversation with GamesIndustry.biz Toto now said that he was very well aware that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was still selling “very well”. Nevertheless, he has meanwhile known that the new part Mario Kart 9 is in “active development” at Nintendo. Even more: The next part of the series should “come with a new twist”, so it will have new features and peculiarities compared to the previous series offshoots.
A new Mario Kart is kind of overdue, after all, Mario Kart 8 was released on the Wii U in 2014. The current Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch is only an expanded and drilled-out version of the Wii U title.
Mario Kart 8 of its time also brought a new twist to the series; Back then, Nintendo gave the Funracer an anti-gravity feature. The two versions of the current part for Wii U and Switch sold more than 47 million times worldwide. This makes the game the best-selling racing game and one of the most successful video games of all time. It is not known until when we will officially hear something about Mario Kart 9.
