Believe it or not, this live-action movie is adapted from Naruto Moving on, a director has now been named for the upcoming film.
Although the “Naruto” movie has been in development as early as 2015, it was only last year that Tasha Ho (played by Red Sonja) was confirmed to be the screenwriter. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter , the film appears to be directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton. Obviously, this is quite a development for a project that’s been in development for a long time, and will certainly make it look like we’ll actually see the movie in the next few years.

Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the original manga, released a statement regarding the news, saying: “When I heard about Destin’s Attachment, coincidentally after watching one of his blockbuster action movies, I thought he would be the star of ” The perfect director for “Naruto”,” Kishimoto said. “After seeing his other films and understanding that his strength was writing solid dramas about characters, I became convinced that no other director could have directed ‘Naturo.’ In actually meeting Destin, I also discovered that he is a A director who was open-minded, receptive to my input, and felt strongly that we could work together on the production process.”
Personally, I’m very excited. Sure, last year’s Netflix adaptation of One Piece was a hit with fans, but it still couldn’t compare to the animated original, and this week saw the release of the live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender , which was met with some pretty mixed reviews . On top of that, Shang-Chi isn’t that good either! Sure, Naruto is a mixed bag overall, but the original series does have some truly great animated moments – how could a live-action movie possibly top Rock Lee’s classic moments? The answer is it can’t, but hey, we all know why this movie happened (it’s money, just to keep us all on the same page).
Since the Naruto movie is still in the early stages of development, a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, so be sure to keep an eye out if you’re interested.
