Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has yet to release its first trailer, but Marvel has announced a prequel comic that will coincide with the animated series.
Even though Marvel’s animated Spider-Man is set to hit theaters in two months, we haven’t seen much yet. Even so, an upcoming prequel comic has been announced that’s basically the origin story for this version of Peter Parker, with Marvel describing it like this: “In this new comic series, you can take your first steps with him as he discovers his powers, decides to become a hero, and even chooses his name and costume. Now Peter must navigate his freshman year as a rookie crime-fighting vigilante… and if you think you know where this story is going, you’re in for a surprise!”

Presumably that last line hints that his origin story won’t be that simple and will be different from the usual Spider-Man stories. It also has a strong team, with Eric Gapstur as the artist for the five-issue series and Christos Gage as the writer. Gage is very familiar with Spider-Man, having written many comics and also written games for Insomniac.
“I’ve had the privilege of writing many of Spider-Man’s adventures in comics and Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never had the chance to do is tell the story of his early exploits,” Gage said in a statement.
“What’s so exciting about this book is that it’s a fresh take on the coming-of-age period. While this is definitely the Peter Parker Spider-Man we know and love, he’s got a whole new cast of supporting characters – including Nico Minoru, who you may know from Runaways – and some surprising twists!”
The first issue of the comic will be released on December 11, about a month after the TV series, which is currently scheduled to be released on November 2.
