Deadpool vs. Wolverine has yet to be released, but Marvel seems confident in it, and is reportedly considering having director Shawn Levy direct Avengers 5.
With more than a month to go until Deadpool vs. Wolverine hits theaters, and with only a few trailers released so far, it’s hard to predict how the film will be received. It’s Marvel’s first big movie of the year, and with the MCU struggling in recent years, the film is obviously highly anticipated. But that hasn’t stopped Marvel from considering Levy to direct the next Avengers movie. According to Deadline, Marvel and Levy are currently in early negotiations for Avengers 5, which was originally slated to be Avengers: Reign of Kang, but reports earlier this year seemed to indicate that Marvel was moving away from Kang due to Jonathan Majors’ assault conviction.

Deadline claims that Levy does have the latest script from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron, but sources say Levy has not yet answered whether he will take on the film. Marvel also appears to be meeting with other directors, waiting for Levy to make a decision. According to Deadline, it is unclear whether he will accept the job, as he is expected to be deeply involved in the final season of Stranger Things as a director and executive producer, and he will also be filming a Star Wars movie.
Overall, this year will be a relatively quiet one for Marvel, as Deadpool vs. Wolverine is the only MCU movie currently scheduled for release in 2024. Disney+ does welcome Echoes in January, though that’s more of a Netflix-like terrestrial drama like Daredevil and isn’t that important. Agatha will be released in September this year, and Eyes of Wakanda is also scheduled to be released on Disney+ sometime in 2024, but that’s all for this year.
Marvel has said it plans to slow down its projects, but that plan may not have taken effect yet — Captain America: Brave New World was originally scheduled to be released last month, but was apparently delayed and didn’t even begin reshoots until recently.
