Right now, the company is still reeling from the dismal reviews for Secret Invasion and the historically low box office performance of the Marvel franchise. That said, 2023 also brought some notable wins, like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the second (and final) season of Loki. Not all is lost, but everyone seems to agree that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been losing money for a while now, and it may just be a matter of Marvel Studios spreading itself thin across too many movies and TV shows.
Disney CEO Bob Iger had to come out of retirement to fix the chaos created by Bob Chapek during the pandemic, and Marvel CEO Kevin Feige has said they will return to a “less is more” approach to TV and film production. Hopefully, this will restore some of the lost quality for upcoming projects like Agatha Christie, Daredevil: Rebirth, the fourth Captain America movie, or Thunderstrike, the latter of which is considered an event movie.
The next Hall H screening will take place on the heels of the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, with early domestic box office numbers pointing to a big box office success, likely because most people love Deadpool and Wolverine regardless of their new connections to the MCU. This would be a much-needed win for Disney and Marvel, but whether they can use this opportunity to power their once unrivaled money-making machine and king of the mega-cinematic universe into 2025 remains to be seen, especially with the long-awaited Fantastic Four reboot on the horizon and Blade still struggling to become a reality.
Meanwhile, renowned scoop reporter Daniel Richtman (who’s been in the news a lot lately) claims he’s heard Marvel Studios is going big at Hall H this year, possibly with a slew of new film and TV projects, but we’d rather get an update on the schedule for the next two to three years, as nearly every major release date has been reshuffled lately.
