Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 made a big showing at PlayStation Showcase last week, but the release date hasn’t been officially communicated for now. Has this possibly already been hidden in the gameplay trailer?
Plenty of fresh gameplay from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was shown on the PlayStation Showcase, but there was initially no concrete release date beyond the general statement of autumn 2023. However, resourceful fans may have found one hidden in the released gameplay trailer.
So what exactly is it about? If you believe the new speculation, then Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could be available from November 20, 2023. That would go well with the general release time window and also falls into the sales-boosting Christmas season, so it would give a good overall picture.
How did this assumption come about? YouTuber AndyReloads found a sequence in the gameplay trailer where Peter lands on an enemy vehicle. The player character then switches to Miles Morales – but throughout this sequence there is an interesting imprint on said vehicle, a Hummer. It’s hard to see, but if you look at it in detail, it says “201123”. This could mean November 20, 2023.
Is there any truth to these speculations? There should at least be considerable doubts, after all it is questionable why the date was not officially announced right away – unless Sony and Insomniac are concocting a very specific marketing strategy in this way.
And: it would be equally strange if the United States-based studio chose 201123, of all things, as the British aka non-American spelling of the date for this reference. Furthermore, November 20th is a Monday, not a Tuesday or Friday – and blockbusters are usually released on these two days, although there are prominent exceptions such as God of War Ragnarök, which was released on a month.
All in all, there is far too much room for interpretation around the series of numbers in the trailer, which is most likely not to be understood as an indication of the release date. We will of course keep you up to date and let you know as soon as there is official news on the subject.
