One of the biggest PlayStation hits this year is set to be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The new action title from Insomniac also wants to score with a large game world. The developers have now commented in more detail on how large this is in concrete terms.
Most recently, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was seen on the PlayStation Showcase for the first time with more detailed gameplay, but there is still no release date beyond the general statement of autumn 2023. When the time comes, the action sequel also wants to score points with a large game world, which will be significantly larger than in the predecessor.
In an interview with the Japanese Famitsu Creative Director Bryan Intihar has now commented on the game in more detail and has also addressed this topic. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should therefore be one of the largest open-world titles on the market, which should clearly put the first part in its place in terms of the size of the game world.
According to Intihar, the new game will add Queens and Brooklyn as playable neighborhoods in New York. These new areas should then roughly double the game world compared to its predecessor, since Manhattan will continue to be playable and exploreable.
In terms of the game world, Insomniac Games is once again upping the ante after the first Spider-Man represented a significant step in this regard for the studio. If you compare this part with the previous Insomniac game Sunset Overdrive, it already had a map that was six times larger.
The new areas should also deliver a different gaming experience compared to the previous Manhattan, after all there are significantly fewer skyscrapers in Brooklyn and Queens than in Manhattan – and that not only conveys a different feeling, but also a noticeably different gameplay.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for Fall 2023 on PlayStation 5.
