If you're still feeling sad after 2019's Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (which I personally didn't hate), then I'm sorry, but it's time to go back and watch another round. Marvel Comics just announced that the comic book adaptation of the last Star Wars movie will be released more than five years after its release.

Written by Jody Houser (Doctor Who, Star Wars: Thrawn) with artist Will Sliney (Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider”), it has been previously announced that 5 issues will be released in 2020. The play is directly adapted from the 2019 movie. Plus, to make up for this insane delay, Lucasfilm and Marvel are injecting never-before-seen (at least not official) scenes into the story.

As an official Marvel post also points out, the five-issue limited series is finally here February 26shortly after the ongoing series Star Wars: Vader's Legacy debuted on February 5. Long story short: Kylo Ren fans are in for a treat again, even if it doesn't exactly mean the return of Adam Driver's character played elsewhere.

Perhaps the most interesting bit of the official press release is that editor Mark Paniccia noted that there have been some strong voices from the sequel's most dedicated fans wanting to see more of the character introduced in 2015's The Force Awakens Certain Characters: “There is renewed interest in the sequel. These characters, especially Darth Vader's bloodline heir, Kylo Ren.” While having Ben Solo return (at least in the post-TROS Times) will be tricky, but Disney and Lucasfilm are certainly taking notes, which is why Daisy Ridley's Rey could be the key to Star Wars' on-screen future, if industry insiders are so inclined to believe it. Currently, at least one movie based on the character is officially in development.

Below, you can check out the awesome cover from the first issue, featuring Kylo Ren and his gang of useless knights, drawn by Phil Noto, and featuring Brian Stefflitz. Gorgeous variant drawn by Brian Stelfreeze, focusing on the heroes of the Resistance:

We already know everything there is to know about the story, but this is how Marvel introduced it before February:

“As the Resistance fights against the dominance of the First Order, Poe Dameron discovers unimaginable threats on the horizon. As the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance, Rey must find a way to a hidden Sith hideout Road, which brings her into conflict with the Sith. With only a few hours left, can our heroes avoid the destruction of the Final Order?”

After several years of heated discussions about the Star Wars sequels, I highly doubt this late adaptation will make anyone change their tune, but it always felt weird to leave a trilogy incomplete in comic book form, and official comments about cutscenes Animated views are always welcome by morbid people (I am a morbid person). Let's hope this giant baby with an alien spider monster on its head makes the cut.
