Oh well, there’s a lot going on with Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming action adventure from Insomniac, which has been suspiciously quiet recently.
Something is happening at Insomniac Games. It has now been announced that there are some personnel changes at Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming superhero game that was announced in September 2021.
According to reports, the previous creative director Brian Horton is out of the picture. He has left Insomniac and moved to The Initiative, where he will be the creative director for Perfect Dark Momentum in the store. Which probably can’t hurt, because there have already been a few reports that the development of the game as a team effort between The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics is not progressing well. Horton was also previously creative director for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales at Insomniac, so he is well versed in the superhero theme.
However, this also means that Marvel’s Wolverine needs new leadership and that has already been found internally. Accordingly, Marcus Smith will take over as creative director and Mike Daly as game director. Not completely unknown names, the two have already created the famous Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart together. The previous game director Cameron Christian will take on other tasks internally.
It is unclear whether the complete change in leadership was due to Horton’s departure or whether there were problems in the development of Marvel’s Wolverine. It is at least reported that a completely new management duo was installed due to “creative decisions around the game”.
So it seems as if a breath of fresh air should be brought into development. Since it was announced three years ago, there hasn’t been much to see of the game, aside from two major leaks in December 2023 and May 2024 that may have had an impact on development.
