When asked about a potential Buffy vs. Vampires return thanks to the magic of the reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar was blunt. It will happen?
The rumor of a comeback from Buffy the vampire slayer it’s nothing new. But this time, the lead actress of Joss Whedon’s show (Avengers, Serenity) gives a candid opinion on the question.
A Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot? No way
Saturday nights in the ’90s looked different than they do today thanks to a copy of an American format: M6’s “Saturday Trilogy” and “Fantastic Saturdays.” An unmissable weekly event that has broadcast series such as the X-Files, Tales from the Crypt or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And the latter, created by Joss Whedon, has shaped the minds of an entire generation just as much as its “competitors”, some even more so.
Could this great success be repeated in our time? Maybe if a ruthless producer comes along – there are plenty of those – but if there is a Buffy reboot it will be without Sarah Michelle Gellar. The young woman who brilliantly played the vampire slayer.
Here’s what she told SFX Magazine (via MovieWeb):
I’m very proud of the series we’ve created and (a revival) doesn’t need to be done. We’ve covered the question. I vote for them to continue the story because it’s about women’s empowerment. I like the way the show was left: “Any girl with power can have power”. It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have power. But like I said, Buffy’s metaphors were the horrors of puberty. I think I look young but I’m not a teenager.
above CineSeries etc MovieWeb.
Given the quality of reboots and remakes, which tend to be disastrous more often than anything else, we’re crossing our fingers that this idea doesn’t succeed. On the other hand, if a full Blu-ray could come out worthy of the name and not a butchered edition, many might be ready.
