Remedy Entertainment is bringing back two of its great in-house action classics: Max Payne remakes and Max Payne 2 have now been officially confirmed.
Many years ago, Remedy made a name for itself with Max Payne and the successors to the action classic, before they also knew how to convince with Alan Wake or most recently Control and Quantum Break. Now it’s sort of going back to basics and making a comeback for Max Payne.
The studio has now announced that both the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne will be remastered and remade in partnership with Rockstar Games. The current platforms PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X are to be served in this respect.
“Max Payne has always had a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know millions of fans around the world feel the same way,” said Remedy CEO Tero Virtala at the remake announcement. We’re excited to be working with Rockstar Games again to “bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games to players in new ways.”
Remedy and Rockstar had previously collaborated on Max Payne 2 after the original publisher, Gathering of Developers, said goodbye after the first installment. In addition, Rockstar was also responsible for the development of Max Payne 3 in 2012.
The remakes of the first two parts are to be published as independent titles; the budget should be similar to that of Remedy’s other AAA projects. Technically, the new editions will rely on Remedy’s own Northlight engine, which was last used in Quantum Break and Control. There is currently no release date, also because the remakes are said to be still in a conception phase.
