“Megalopolis” director Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) is known for various cuts of the same film. Will there be an extended cut here too?
MegaFLOPolis? “Megalopolis” will be released in German cinemas on September 26, 2024. The film by “The Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola was previously touted as a major comeback for the star filmmaker, but does “Megalopolis” do justice to Coppola’s legacy?
Before its theatrical release this September, Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024. The day after the premiere, the star director and the crew of “Megalopolis” came together to answer questions from the press.
We were there in person and were able to ask the director whether “Megalopolis” is actually the final version of the film. After all, the filmmaker is notorious for constantly presenting new cuts of his films, such as “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather Part 3”.
We ask Francis Ford Coppola if he would cut an extended cut of “Megalopolis”
If there’s a way to make this movie a little better, I will do it.

Francis Ford Coppola, now 85 years old, jokes: “I think I’ll still be here in 20 years. And if there’s an opportunity to make the film a little better then, I’ll do it.”
Wrapped up as a joke, he does admit that there is a chance that he will re-edit the film one day. The fact that he might change the film again shouldn’t stop you from watching “Megalopolis,” though. For now, it’s the final version, and Coppola also reveals that he’s already working on the next project.
The fact that he is already devoting himself to new ideas is a clear sign to him that “Megalopolis” is finished for him, at least for now! With the theatrical release in Germany, fans of the “The Godfather” director can now finally form their own opinion of the film and no longer have to listen only to the critical voices from Cannes.
Francis Ford Coppola became famous in the 1970s when he made history with films such as “The Godfather”, “The Conversation”, “The Godfather Part 2” and “Apocalypse Now”. Other well-known and iconic works are “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” with Gary Oldman and “The Outsiders” with “Cobra Kai” star Ralph Macchio.
