It’s been quiet about Metroid Prime 4 for a long time, really an extremely long time. So it’s all the nicer that Nintendo and Retro Studios have finally plucked up the courage and released a fresh trailer for the 3D shooter-Metroidvania mix. But that’s not all, we’re even given an approximate release date.
Do you remember E3 2017? If not, let us help you out. During the now-defunct trade fair, titles such as Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Cuphead, State of Decay 2, Spider-Man and God of War were shown, and Microsoft also introduced the Xbox One X. Feel old yet?
But we deliberately left out one title, because Nintendo also showed Metroid Prime 4 there. But that’s only half true, because the Japanese company didn’t let us take a look at the game. Instead, we were only given a teaser and a logo that told us: The title is being developed, more information will follow at some point.
This “someday” took ages to arrive. In the meantime, it was even announced that Retro Studios had completely restarted the development of Metroid Prime 4 and the fans’ hopes kept dwindling. After all, the title is supposed to be released on the Nintendo Switch and it can’t even handle Pokémon anymore.
But good things take time, and now Nintendo has actually released a new trailer. The last Direct presentation not only featured the video, the title starring Samus Aran was also given a new name: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
The company also gave an approximate release date, but it is very vague. They only mention 2025, apparently still on the Nintendo Switch. Let’s hope the technology is right. You can find the trailers here:
