Some new details appear in retro studio Cancel Zelda The game will feature Sheik as the protagonist.

Retro Studios starts with Metroid Prime series these days, but did you know that at some point it was working on a Zelda game that could star Sheik? Did you know the game knows, it recently released a video of a conversation with the programmers working on the project.

Concept art for the game, released in 2020, is said to be intended to use a darker tone to tell the origin story of Master Sword, set in a timeline where Link failed to defeat Ganon Ocarina of Time. Thanks to the release of the artwork, programmer Paul Tozour is willing to talk about it, as well as anonymous sources, even though it doesn’t sound like a great game.

“I saw people commenting on this concept art on the internet and saying, ‘Oh my God. Retro is working on a Zelda game. That would be awesome,'” Tozour said. “I understand the feeling, but what they have to understand is that this isn’t actually a Zelda game. It’s in no way like Zelda. It’s an experiment that happened in the Zelda universe that went wrong. “

The gameplay will sound surprisingly simplistic, which Tozour describes as a whack-a-mole-like game, where Sheik will battle a pack of wolves who take turns attacking and you can hit them with just a flick of the Wii remote, and that’s it .

Tozour explained that the gameplay itself was the biggest issue, and it wasn’t reviewed by the other designers at Retro who worked on the Prime Trilogy series. He did try to talk to one of his bosses about it and suggested doing something more like shadow of giantbut his position doesn’t actually change anything.

It’s unclear if the game was ever shown Nintendoalthough the company approved the project, Tozour said the developers “couldn’t really make heads or tails. Their response basically boiled down to ‘is this what you’re proposing seriously? Really?'”

Tozour said it was immediately rejected, but doesn’t know if the project was actually shown to Nintendo.

At the end of the day it’s probably a good thing that the project never finished, although you know the game does talk about another Zelda game that Retro is working on that will focus on Goron, Zora, and Rito, which will be in another video Introduced, so maybe it’s sad that it doesn’t exist.
