Update 02.04.2024: We asked you a week ago if you were interested in a native Xbox handheld and if you would buy it.

Over two thirds of you are either interested in the device or would buy it. So there is great interest in our community, but the question arises as to whether Microsoft can also convince the mainstream with a portable Xbox.

We thank you very much for your participation!

Over the weekend, a new rumor about the future of Xbox hardware made its rounds. This time, however, the question was not whether it even exists, as was hotly debated a few weeks ago, but what it might look like. One possible product that is constantly being talked about is a handheld from Microsoft.

We ask ourselves: Is this the right way? Would you buy it?

Native Xbox handheld is said to be in the works

Jez Corden vom Xbox Two Podcast should already know that Microsoft is said to have already developed some handheld prototypes. He specifies that he means native Xbox consoles and not a cloud gaming device.

There are currently Xbox-licensed handhelds, but they cannot play Xbox games natively. Either they rely on the Windows operating system, like the Asus ROG Ally, or on cloud gaming, like the Logitech G Cloud.

In fact, an Xbox handheld has been under discussion for a long time and was even mentioned in the big leak from last year. However, there was still talk of a hybrid device that would rely partly on native hardware and the cloud.

Would you buy it?

If Microsoft pursues these plans, it is conceivable that the next iteration of the Xbox Series S could be a dockable handheld in the style of the Nintendo Switch. For gamers who prefer a powerful home console, there will likely still be a successor to the Xbox Series X.

According to Jez Corden, the new handheld could be a native Xbox console and not rely on Windows or Linux, as is known from Steam Deck and other portable PC consoles. Games could therefore be developed specifically for the console.

As is well known, Microsoft doesn’t have an easy time keeping up with Nintendo and Sony in terms of hardware sales. We are therefore wondering whether you would buy such a console?

It is not yet known when an Xbox Portable, or whatever it will be called, will be released. According to the FTC leak from last year, the target was 2028, but plans may have changed since then.

And probably the most important question of all: What should the Xbox handheld be called? As many of you know, the naming of the Xbox consoles is very unique. Xbox Series P like Portable? Xbox Series XP? Xbox Xpedition? Xbox Series P All Digital 360? Write us your best suggestions in the comments!
