The global crisis surrounding the corona virus also has long-term consequences in the gaming industry, also as far as Microsoft is concerned. After the E3, the gamescom in Cologne, which is still planned, will largely fall into the water for the Redmond?
Actually, many gamers had a lot to celebrate this year because the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X promised a lot of interesting news and innovations. But then the corona virus got in the way, because of which the important industry fair E3 2020 was canceled in June. Gamescom in Cologne is planned until further notice, but there may not be any serious news from Microsoft there – despite Xbox Series X.
As the Redmond company has now confirmed, classic media events and press conferences will initially be suspended until at least July 2021. Instead, there should only be purely digital formats.

Instead of the canceled E3 2020, Microsoft is planning its own digital event for this summer, but will that also be the case at gamescom – should it be possible to hold it as usual? At least that's in the stars. So it could well happen that there is simply nothing new to hear and see from Microsoft at the annual Cologne trade fair.
The communicated time frame even raises doubts about a special appearance at E3 2021, because the large US trade fair usually rises in June of a year. The plan that has just been announced may also change, however, because the situation will be "further evaluated".
