Microsoft plans to get into the game streaming business, according to people familiar with the matter.
Within the next 12 months, Microsoft plans to release an Xbox cloud game streaming device that could take the form of a Roku puck or Amazon Fire TV Stick, according to a VentureBeat report.
The report states that the device will not only allow users to stream games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but also allow users to watch movies and TV shows.
But it’s not just a physical stick or puck. Samsung smart TVs are said to be installing the Xbox streaming app for these sets. Like the streaming stick, it will also launch sometime in the next 12 months.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft did produce the aforementioned products. Back at E3 2016, Phil Spencer pointed out that the gaming landscape is changing, and while consoles are still a major part of the ecosystem, most people play games on more than one device, which is changing the way we think about gaming .
“At Xbox, we want to provide a world where you have more freedom and choice to play the games you want, with the people you want, on the devices you want. One that you can play without boundaries The world. A world that transcends generations,” he said.
The company is delivering on its promise with its cloud gaming program, which adds more and more games every month. Recently, Xbox Cloud Gaming added Fortnite to the service, allowing you to play it for free on iOS, Android, and PC.
