Microsoft wants its own piece of the big AI pie, it’s no secret. With a chat AI in the Bing search engine, a first attempt is being made to make one’s own progress accessible to a broader audience. And not well. The chatbot behaves inappropriately, bullies and threatens.
What is a big secret, however, is that there are apparently attempts to train an AI to play Minecraft, as reported by former Bloomberg CEO Justin B. Smith’s young news platform Semafor, citing insiders.
Accordingly, Microsoft trains an artificial intelligence to play Minecraft independently. Success is said to have already been achieved. However, the purpose of this remains unclear.
No plans to make it public?
In his Article reports journalist Reed Albergotti that the AI used in the recent foray into Bing is said not to be Prometheus. The Minecraft AI should be able to handle both simple tasks such as crafting an in-game tool and complex structures such as constructing a car, which could lead to unexpected results.
Here, the AI is dependent on learning independently, since there are countless different ways of solving the task. The author notes that OpenAI, which recently made a breakthrough with ChatGPT, has already trained models with video games like Minecraft.
So it wouldn’t be too unexpected if Microsoft extended its research to its prodigy Minecraft. Why exactly, that could remain unknown for a long time. According to the insider, Microsoft has no plans to make the AI publicly available or integrate it into the game to give players an actually intelligent Bot
to put aside or something like that. But that too remains to be seen.
Do you think that AI in games could soon be more than complex scripts? Real AI that learns from your behavior and develops a personality – is that more of a dream or a nightmare for you? Feel free to write it in the comments!
