In 2022, Microsoft’s video game industry has many pans on fire. The American giant must indeed take care of the Xbox Series X | S, Xbox Game Pass, its games offered on Steam, and its cloud gaming system. These priorities, combined with the Xbox Series X|S production issues, led to Microsoft deciding to discontinue the Xbox Ones.
Microsoft has just confirmed that production of the Xbox One has ended. And that this judgment took place more than a year ago.
By the end of 2020, we had stopped producing all Xbox Ones to focus on producing the Xbox Series X|S.
Xbox One S or the Last of the Mohicans
The Xbox One marketed in North America and Europe in November 2013 therefore had a cycle of 7 years. FYI, the Xbox One S was the last model still in production at the end of 2020.
In fact, Microsoft stopped producing the original Xbox One when the Xbox One S was released in the summer of 2016. And in the summer of 2020, production of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All Digital ended.
A generation almost over
So it’s at the utmost discretion to end the Xbox One’s career. While games continue to be released on the Xbox One, it can now be said that it is one of the dead consoles.
Finally, let’s remember this for comparison Sony has formalized its intention to resume production of PS4s in 2022. As we explained to you yesterday, this is a way for the Japanese manufacturer to deal with its own PS5 production problems on different levels.
