Via Twitter, Aaron Greenberg confirm that Microsoft will start the production of mini-fridges with the design and finishes of Xbox Series X. Not April Fools April Fools, but a promise kept. In fact, the most curious of all is how and in what way the Xbox Meme came true.
At the end of March, the official Twitter Marketing account started a friendly brand competition. A popularity tournament that pitted the commercial divisions of companies of the caliber of MTV, Doritos, Spotify, Airbnb O Pizza Hut. The winner: the Xbox brand beat Skittles by the minimum, although Greenberg took part in the playoff.
The grand finale of the match took place in April and, almost in extremis, the Xbox Games marketer made a crazy promise in this brand war: if his console won, Xbox refrigerators would be produced.
Ok, here it goes: if you help Xbox win, we’ll put Xbox Series X mini fridges into production this year. Yes, you read it right. This is not an April Fools joke. No clickbait.
The votes were decided hours later and the results, very tight, gave the Microsoft brand the winner. The popular Skittles received the support of 49.5% of the participants versus 50.5% for Xbox. Of course, it must be recognized that the normal model of the refrigerator is amazing.
Greenberg’s strategy worked and, not long after, it became official the production of mini-fridges along with a note of healthy competitiveness for its rivals:
