Microsoft Xbox: Well-known insider emphasizes the end of Xbox-exclusive games

It was one of the bigger excitements of the video game year 2024: Microsoft announced its realignment to a multiplatform strategy, which meant the end of Xbox exclusivity for some of its own games. According to one of the most renowned Xbox insiders, this new direction is now being pushed further, as he emphasizes the complete end of the permanently Xbox-exclusive blockbusters from Xbox Studios.

The discussion came up again after the upcoming The Outer Wilds 2 was confirmed for 2025 at the Game Awards 2024. The sequel will also be released for the PlayStation 5 from day 1, although the responsible development studio belongs to Microsoft.

While fans discussed why Microsoft doesn't just officially announce the end of Xbox-exclusive games, the well-known and reliable Microsoft insider Jez Corden replied that there was a reason for that: They didn't want to put pressure on development studios that weren't set up for this to be able to accomplish a multiplatform release directly to the release of a game.

Nevertheless, Corden emphasizes the fundamental end of the era of Xbox-exclusive games: “The era of the Xbox having permanent console-exclusive titles is over.” In doing so, he suggests to renowned insiders that future Xbox titles will probably always appear on the competing platforms from Sony and/or Nintendo sooner or later.
