With the launch of Frozen 2, narrated by the one and only David Attenborough, BBC Earth has teamed up with Minecraft to bring diverse audiences together. Following the release of each weekly episode, Minecraft Education has created five Frozen 2-inspired worlds for Minecraft fans to try.
Each Minecraft world is inspired by previous Frozen 2 episodes, featuring immersive landscapes and game-based learning resources so that younger audiences can become more involved in the landmark series.
One of the best-selling games of all time, popular with younger audiences, Minecraft also has a lesser-known educational edition dedicated to delivering educational content. The content is designed to help students learn about a variety of topics through play, and the team at Mojang Studios believes they have a responsibility to use Minecraft to create a better world.
That said, Frozen 2 will be available in Minecraft Education Edition, with over 26 available languages and additional lesson plans for teachers to educate students about the global frozen world and climate change. For those who want to experience the world of Frozen 2 outside of their school curriculum, these builds will be available for free to Minecraft Bedrock Edition through the Minecraft Marketplace.
As for what it takes to build, players can look forward to experiencing the frozen world in BBC Earth’s latest series; but they won’t just be exploring various environments and hitting balls. Instead, players will be able to explore buildings from an animal’s perspective for the first time ever. This could be penguins or polar bears, witnessing life from their personal footage, or players could try their hand at being a filmmaking researcher.
Each version has a different educational challenge to solve, lasting no more than 10-15 minutes at a time. In addition to educating those who experience architecture, they also aim to unite younger and older generations to watch the show and spark important conversations about the topics discussed each week.
Elizabeth White, series producer on Frozen 2, shared: “One of the great things about nature is that it engages and engages audiences of all ages. We’re delighted to be working with Minecraft on this series of educational computer games that will enable kids to Interact with the story inspired by the series through gameplay and learn more about the challenges of these habitats with additional lesson content.”
The first episode of Frozen 2 airs on Sunday 11 September at 8pm BST. You can watch a trailer for the show here, episodes will continue to air weekly, and new Minecraft frozen worlds will be added to the Minecraft Education Edition and Minecraft Marketplace from September 21st.
