Form factor
Anyone who knows the two latest Galaxy foldables from Samsung – the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 – can probably already imagine whose system Xiaomi used for the MIX Fold 4 and MIX Flip. The MIX Fold 4 has – similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 – a large, foldable display on the inside of the device and a smaller, smartphone-sized screen on the outside that can be used when folded.
The MIX Flip is the first in a new foldable series from Xiaomi, which is based on the Galaxy Z Flip. The MIX Flip has a normal-sized, foldable display on the inside of the device, which can be used when unfolded. When folded, users can access an external display that is about half the size and can be used to carry out many regular tasks.
Size
The distinction explained above naturally has an impact on how big the devices are. When unfolded, the MIX Fold 4 is 159.4 x 143.3 x 4.6 millimeters, which is twice as big as the unfolded MIX Flip, which is 167.5 x 74 x 7.6 millimeters in this state. Similarly, when folded, the MIX Fold 4 is 159.4 x 73.1 x 4.6 millimeters, and the MIX Flip is 74 x 74 x 7.6 millimeters.
Display
The interior display of the MIX Fold 4 is its heart: It is a 7.98-inch AMOLED panel that has a resolution of 2,488 x 2,224 pixels and supports technologies such as LTPO, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It reaches a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and has a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The interior display of the MIX Flip has the same specifications – with the difference that it is “only” 6.86 inches and has a resolution of 2,912 x 1,224 pixels.
The external displays of the MIX Flip and MIX Fold 4 also come with the same premium specifications as the internal displays. The external display of the MIX Fold 4 is 6.56 inches and has a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels, while that of the MIX Flip is 4 inches and has a resolution of 1,392 x 1,208 pixels. The other display specifications remain the same.
Processor and memory
The two devices are almost identical in terms of processor and memory configuration. Both are equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor – the fastest Android chip currently on the market. The MIX Fold 4 is available in 256GB+12GB, 512GB+16GB and 1TB+16GB memory configurations, with the MIX Flip supporting the same configurations – with one difference: the 512GB version of the smaller smartphone only has 12GB of RAM.
Battery and charging
There are also small but subtle differences between the two devices when it comes to the battery and charging: The MIX Fold 4 comes with a 5,100 milliampere hour battery, while the MIX Flip has a slightly smaller capacity of 4,780 milliampere hours. Both devices can be charged with a cable at 67 watts, although the MIX Fold 4 also supports wireless charging with up to 50 watts.
Camera
When it comes to camera equipment, the two smartphones differ in several ways. Both have the same 50 MP lens as their main camera, which has a focal length of 23 mm and an aperture of f/1.7. Both devices also have a telephoto camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels and a two-fold optical zoom. However, the MIX Fold 4 also has a periscope telephoto camera with a resolution of 10 megapixels and a resolution of up to five times optical zoom. The ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels is also only available on the MIX Fold 4.
The MIX Fold 4 comes with two front cameras, each with a resolution of 16 megapixels. The MIX Flip only has one front camera, which has a resolution of 32 megapixels. Video recordings are possible with both devices at 8K at 24fps or 4K at 60fps, but the front cameras of the MIX Fold 4 can only record at 1080p at 60fps.
Further differences
- The MIX Fold 4 is available in black, white and blue. The MIX Flip is available in black, white and purple.
- The MIX Fold 4 comes with a faster USB-C 3.2 port, the MIX Flip with a slower USB-C 2.0 port.
- The MIX Fold 4 will support three-band Wi-Fi with a future update, while the MIX Flip will stick with two bands.
- At 228 grams, the MIX Fold 4 is heavier than the MIX Flip, which weighs 192 grams.
