The British magazine MCP Develop, which reports on the video game industry in Great Britain, published in the Interview with a studio employee unearthed new information about Star Citizen and its single-player campaign Squadron 42.
Among other things, Carl Jones, Chief Operating Officer at Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), reveals more about the plans for Squadron 42 and its successor. It is about the plans of the developers for the period of the next five years. If you’re wondering what new features and content Star Citizen should get this year, watch our video with expert Patrick:

Star Citizen – What’s coming in 2022, what was finished in 2021?
Star Citizen as a »real« MMO
As far as Star Citizen is concerned, Chris Roberts’ statement still applies, of course, that the MMO should never be finished and instead should always be further developed. Nevertheless, many players and supporters would of course like to know when the game will leave the alpha phase or even get a release version. At least the interview gives us a little clue here.
The article is based on CIG’s plan to expand its studios and expand departments such as support. By 2027, those plans are set to be implemented, and by that time, notes Carl Jones, the studio will be running a “very big MMORPG.”
After all, his statement suggests that Star Citizen is already available in a version that, unlike the currently playable alpha, can be described as a functional MMO and will therefore also be expanded in terms of content. Whether Star Citizen should then be a beta or an even more advanced version remains open.
The game still has a long way to go, even if Star Citizen is making progress, as Michael Graf explains with his guests in the podcast:

Squadron 42 is to get successors
Furthermore, the Squadron 42 single-player campaign should also have appeared in 2027 at the latest, because: “By that time we will be developing the successor(s) for Squadron 42.” It has been clear for years that the separate single-player mode should appear in several episodes, but the release is delayed so long that colleague Peter has long since lost all patience with Squadron 42. By the way, the first trailer for Squadron 42 is already about 10 years old:

After all, the developers are now making faster progress in completing the single-player content for Star Citizen:
After the Squadron 42 team was sent to the home office in March 2020, the developers have now returned to the office. It has been found, Jones reports, that working from home is not ideal for creating video games, although the developers initially found it very easy to adapt.
The return to working on site immediately boosted team spirit and morale, according to Jones. The progress of Squadron 42 has also accelerated noticeably as a result.

Jones also hopes that having Chris Roberts on site will help the team move faster with Squadron 42 in the future. After staying in Los Angeles for a long time, Roberts is now returning to Great Britain for a longer period of between one and two years.
Despite everything, Jones naturally doesn’t want to give a release date or period: “We want to finish this game, but that won’t happen until it’s ready,” he emphasizes in the article. It’s to be hoped that a release isn’t a full five years away and that fans will hold out for that long.
