A deleted scene from The Witcher 3 has been discovered, featuring fan-favorite character Yennefer’s betrayal of the Coven.
In May, CD Projekt Red finally released the REDkit mod editor for The Witcher 3, opening the door to all sorts of modding capabilities for the nine-year-old game. It’s been a welcome toolset for many, and now as PC Gamer reports, it’s helped uncover a deleted scene from The Witcher 3 that details what happens to the witch’s hut at the end of the game. This wasn’t actually covered in the original game, and apparently CD Projekt Red chose to move forward with the scene because it wasn’t included in the final result – the scene isn’t even finished yet, but you can check out the video from one of the modders, xLetalis, who found it, below (spoilers for the game’s ending ahead, of course).
According to the game, Avallac’h brings Ciri to the tower in Udvik shortly after Geralt defeats Eredin so that she can defeat the Whitefrost. This always happens regardless of which ending you choose, and this scene with Yennefer seems to take place between Geralt beating up Eredin and Ciri’s final moments in the tower. Those moments won’t change much, but as mentioned earlier, it does show what might have happened at the coven.

In this alternate version of events, Geralt is knocked unconscious for a while after the boss fight, and wakes up to find himself in a medical tent in Nilfgaard, where several doctors are arguing about whether or not you’re going to die – not an ideal way to wake up. He then finds Yennefer, and they discover that Ciri is missing, and you’ll be able to talk to multiple characters after this, including Yennefer and Triss, but the former’s scene is obviously the most important one here.
To figure out where Ciri is, Geralt and Yennefer head to the other members of the witches’ lodge, and while this part is missing some animations, it seems that she disrupts the ritual, leading to the other witches Philippa, Fringilla, and Margaret being captured by the Nilfgaardians and subsequently executed. This move will definitely lower her reputation with many fans, but don’t worry, this is non-canon, so you can still pair Geralt and Yennefer together.
Modders really did get to work on The Witcher 3 pretty quickly after using the REDkit tools, as less than a day after The Witcher 3 was released, a modder was enabling people to explore Vizima from the first Witcher.
