When are you coming back Modern Warfare 2 Shown to only a handful of media outlets, a special feature of Gunsmith was obscured during the demo. It showed players the ability to tweak weapon attachments, and some of those present even mentioned it in the preview.
However, it was later forgotten, simply because it was nowhere to be seen in beta, so everyone thought it had been axed.
But it’s actually in the last game. Buried deep in a blog post about the progression, Activision confirmed that players will indeed be able to adjust the attachment’s behavior. This feature is unlocked at max level with a forgeable weapon – basically any weapon that can be adjusted in the gunsmith.
This will open the new tuning menu, which is available for tunable accessories. Essentially, tweaks allow you to change the weight of the attachment’s strengths and weaknesses. As you can see in the screenshot below, there are two sliders that represent specific stats for that attachment.
In this example, you can effectively reduce the ADS speed penalty of the Edge-47 grip, which can result in a unique behavior that the standard version doesn’t have.
Infinity Ward considers adjustments as part of the final phase. Next step after unlocking all attachments. It’s not clear if you’ll be able to save different tunes for selected attachments, but it looks like the goal is to create something new by messing with the parameters of each attachment on the weapon.
When Gunsmith was first introduced, we saw some laments in the community, as it seemed to make the act of picking weapons and clipping attachments a lot more complicated than it needed to be. There is no doubt that the adjustment will put those already disgruntled into overdrive.
