Hasbro announced in its recent earnings report that Monopoly Go, the hugely popular video game developed by Scopely, has brought in more than $3 billion since its release last April. That, my friends, is more than 15 million times more than Go. It’s a ridiculous number.
This continues the trend of hitting milestones for the mobile game, which previously passed the 1 billion mark just seven months after its release. What’s interesting about this number is that it not only shows that Monopoly Go has maintained its momentum after its release, but that its revenue is actually increasing over time. One can only wonder if this trend can continue, or if Monopoly Go will soon taper off.

Commenting on the milestone in Hasbro’s second quarter financial report, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said: “Since launch, the game has grossed more than $3 billion, making Hasbro the largest video game licensor over the past year, according to Aldora. The team continues to aggressively pursue licensing opportunities across PC, console, mobile and casino, leveraging our rich intellectual property.”
Hasbro CFO Gina Goetter then commented on the significant financial benefits of Monopoly Go!’s success, noting that the continued popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 also had an impact. “Second quarter revenue increased 20% year-over-year, driven primarily by digital licensing growth led by Monopoly Go! and, to a lesser extent, continued contributions from Baldur’s Gate 3. Last quarter, we discussed the potential for pre-orders above our minimum guarantee earlier than originally planned. Due to the strong momentum of the game, we exceeded our minimum guarantee of $5 million by approximately $35 million this quarter.”
Will Monopoly Go continue this money-making trend, or will a new game with a similar level of profitability win over hearts and wallets in the coming months? Let us know below if you think MonoPoly Go has run out of steam, or if it still has life in it.
