Following up on Monster Hunter Wildlands’ big gameplay reveal at Sony’s State of Play conference last week, which Capcom referred to as the “first trailer,” we got another look at the highly anticipated action-RPG earlier today during a showcase event at the Summer Game Fest.
Wilds is actually one of the few games confirmed to be on the show, making it a double-header so to speak. Today’s show gives us our first look at a brand new monster that we’ll be taking on in the game.

The new trailer shows off a massive battle with a ton of player interaction and immersion — primarily the way the weather and environment interact with how players plan to take down monsters.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the next major title from Capcom, the 100 million-selling monster-hunting action-RPG. Capcom seems to be very fond of Keighley, as the game was originally unveiled at last year’s Game Awards and has made a return today.
The gameplay seems to be an evolution of World, with some elements of Rise thrown in. Environmental interactivity also seems to be a major element, as do cinematic moments when facing monsters, thanks to the new Focus feature.
We’ll be able to explore all of this for ourselves next year when Monster Hunter Wildlands arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. No more specific release date was mentioned at the show, but we did learn that we’ll be hearing more about the game at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event in August—where a playable version of the game will also be revealed.
For now, all we know is that you’ll be able to play the game at Gamescom – it’s unclear if this demo will be extended to people not attending the live event in Cologne, Germany. We’ll update this article as more information becomes available.
