You probably know who will appear in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four movie, but the official synopsis finally tells us what they’ll actually be doing.
Back in February, after a ton of casting, hopes, and questions from fans about who would become the Marvel Universe’s Fantastic Four , Marvel finally announced a pretty strong cast. Shortly after, reports emerged that Julia Garner would be playing fan-favorite character Silver Surfer, although this was not fully confirmed at the time. Now, though, Marvel has confirmed Garner’s involvement and role, and even released the full official plot synopsis, so we actually have a rough idea of what the movie will be about (thanks, IGN).

“Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: The First Step is set in a vibrant retro-future world of the 1960s and introduces Marvel’s First Family – Reed Richards/Mr. Dro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) , Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Queen) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who face their toughest challenge yet,” Marvel’s plot the introduction reads.
“Forced to balance their heroic roles with family ties, they must defend Earth against the greedy space god Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious emissary, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). If Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it wasn’t bad enough, it suddenly became deeply personal.”
Okay, so, that’s generally what you can assume about this movie, but it’s nice to at least know for sure. There is no indication that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in the movie. He has been confirmed to play Doctor Doom in “Avengers 5”, but considering that the Fantastic Four will also appear in the next few “Avengers” Alliance” movie, you might think he was, at least in the post-credits scene.
“Fantastic Four: The First Step” is currently filming and is expected to be released on July 25, 2025.
