It had already been announced in advance that the PUBG studio Krafton would announce a new title at gamescom. Now it’s clear: It’s a sci-fi game called Moonbreaker.
As promised, Krafton, the studio behind the long-running battle royale PUBG: Battlegrounds, announced a new game at gamescom Opening Night Live. This is called Moonbreaker and is – very different from PUBG – a turn-based tabletop tactics game with a sci-fi setting and an authentic digital miniature experience. It draws on the universe created by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, The Stormlight Chronicles, Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time).
The development studio Unknown Worlds, which made a name for itself with the Subnautica series and now belongs to Krafton, is responsible for the development of Moonbreaker. This previously worked under the working title Project M on Moonbreaker, which is scheduled to start worldwide in Early Access on PC and Mac via Steam from September 29th.
What do you expect specifically? The creators themselves describe Moonbreaker as follows: “Through accessible, turn-based, competitive gameplay, ongoing content releases, and deep customization options, Moonbreaker will offer a wide variety of gameplay experiences – especially for fans of tabletop and trading card games. Players will be able to to lead their rosters – consisting of Captains, Crew and Assistants – in fast-paced, turn-based encounters with a variety of gameplay possibilities. With more than 50 units (Captains, Crew and Assistants) available at launch of Early Access, the combinations of rosters are endless.”
The bottom line is that you want to capture and digitize the feeling of a real miniatures game – without real-world limitations. There are constantly evolving painting tools to further customize your units.
