Warhammer 40K is becoming a movie and/or TV series thanks to Amazon. And Henry Cavill shouldn’t just be in front of the camera: the former Geralt and Superman actor is also involved in the creative process as an executive producer.
When and how exactly the Warhammer 40K film adaptation will begin remains to be seen. Fans should currently be prepared to wait at least a few years. The rights holders Games Workshop recently announced that they had reached an agreement with Amazon.
Warhammer 40K is all well and good – but is that all?
What may have been overlooked in the announcement: An adaptation of Warhammer 40K for Amazon Prime Video could be just the beginning. Because one passage implies that additional Warhammer film adaptations will continue after the start of the project by and with Henry Cavill – apart from 40K.
Im Blogpost von Games Workshop it says explicitly:
Under the terms of the agreement, Games Workshop has granted Amazon exclusive rights to films and TV series set in the Warhammer 40K universe, along with the option for Amazon to acquire equivalent rights within the Warhammer fantasy universe upon publication of the Warhammer 40K production. Universe to license.
This means specifically: Amazon is also contractually able to film other Warhammer universes. Because while Warhammer 40K focuses on dark sci-fi nonsense about Space Marines, Eldar and Co., there is still a whole range of fantasy brands related to Warhammer.
In the world of video games, for example, the Total War or Vermintide series are particularly popular – of course there are many, many more that would go beyond the scope of this. At the moment nothing is set in stone regarding this. But if the Warhammer 40K project is successful, fans can definitely count on it.
